Urodynamics Equipment Uses and market

Urodynamics: Equipment Uses and Market

You may have heard of issues among friends or family wherein a person has urine leaks, excessive or less urine flow, or someone who is prone to UTIs (Urinary tract infections). In such cases after visiting a doctor, you are often asked to undergo a (USD) Urodynamic test. Now, what exactly is this test?

Urodynamics studies (UDS) help test how well your bladder, urethra, and sphincters can handle holding and releasing your urine. These tests are often done to understand how well your bladder works and if or whether there might be blockages or leakages due to any prior underlying health conditions.

Urodynamic tests are of several types, therefore upon examination by your doctor either one or more than one test can be recommended to help understand your condition better.

Upon going through this test, the urodynamic system takes physical measurements along with flow rates and bladder pressure, thereby helping investigate the nerve and muscle function of the urinary tract.

Procedure:

Depending upon what test is recommended by your doctor, a certain test is decided and fixed upon. In most cases, patients are not required to do much other than drink a good amount of water before the test. Once this is done the patient is asked to lie comfortably in the bed provided during which a catheter would be put into your bladder. For women, it is inserted through the urethra, while for men it is inserted through the rectum. This is painless however some doctors may recommend a local anesthetic in certain cases.

There are a variety of Urodynamic tests some of which include:

Cystometry:

To understand how much your bladder can hold and how elastic the bladder muscle is. During the test, a small and flexible tube(catheter) is inserted into the urethra as it is painless.

Uroflowmetry:

Another test to measure how quickly you urinate to find out if your bladder has any kind of blockage or if it is simply weak. After drinking water and having a full bladder, you are asked to urinate into a piece of equipment which will then go ahead and do the necessary measurements.

Electromyography:

A test is used to measure the level of activity of the nerves and muscles in the bladder and sphincters. Electrode patches are used during this test to help record electrical currents when the pelvic floor muscles contract.

Postvoid Residual Measurement:

This test helps measure how much urine is left in your bladder after you release all of it. This test either uses a catheter placed into the urethra or through ultrasound equipment which uses soundwaves thereby creating a digital picture of your bladder.

This test is a combination of cystometry, uroflowmetry, and X-ray cystography.

Market Value and Future Potential

As per market analysis, when it comes to having most of the urodynamic equipment business, North America is definitely for the win.

Due to an increase in cases of kidney and urinary tract diseases, there is a significant growth in the urodynamics market levels. As per global research reports, kidney and urinary tract diseases are responsible for over 8,30,000 deaths and 18,467,000 disability-adjusted life every year. Due to these numbers, this makes this condition the 12th leading cause of death.

As per a market research report by Stallion Market research, the global urodynamics market value is estimated to reach USD  310 by the year 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of 6.25%.

The Urodynamic equipment market is also stimulated by disorders such as harmless prostatic growth, bladder malignancy, over-active bladder, neurogenic bladder disorders, etc.
